The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) announced the January-July data. Automotive production increased by 11 percent compared to the same period of the previous year to 705,079 units and car production increased by 2 percent to 449,550 units in the first seven months of the year. Total production reached 738 thousand 329 units with the production of tractors. Automotive exports increased by 7 percent to 512,320 units on a quantity basis during the same period, while car exports decreased by 3 percent to 332,874 units. The total market was 461,730 units, up 31 percent from last year in the January-July period. The car market increased by 27 percent to 346,636 units during this period. The total market increased by 6.4 percent and the car market increased by 10 percent in the January-July period when the averages of the last 10 years are taken into account. The heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by about 4 percent, while the light commercial vehicle market was in line with the ten-year average and decreased by 2 percent. According to the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), the automotive industry, which received a 13.5 percent share of total exports in the January-July period, finished the first seven months of the year as the leader.

The Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), the umbrella organization of the sector with 14 major members guiding the Automotive Manufactory of Turkey, announced production and export volumes and market data for the period of January-July. Accordingly, total automotive production increased by 11 percent to 705,079 units in the seven months of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, and car production increased by 2 percent to 449,550 units. With tractor production, total production was 738,329 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 62%. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 61 percent in light commercial vehicles (automobiles + light commercial vehicles), 58 percent in heavy commercial vehicles, and 76 percent in tractors.

Commercial vehicle production increased by 30 percent

Commercial vehicle production increased by 30 percent compared to the same period of the previous year in the January-July period. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 56 percent, while production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 28 percent. Total commercial vehicle production was 255,529 units in the first seven months of the year. Looking at the market, the commercial vehicle market increased by 95 percent, the light commercial vehicle market increased by 40 percent, and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 112 percent in January-July compared to the same period of the previous year. Although there was an increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, the truck market contracted by 31 percent and the bus and midibus market contracted by 31 percent compared to 2015 when the base effect is taken into account.

The market is 6.4 percent above the 10-year average

The total market increased by 31 percent compared to last year to 461,730 units during the first seven months of the year. The car market also increased by 27 percent to 346,636 units during this period. When the averages of the last 10 years are taken into account, the total market increased by 6.4 percent, and the car market increased by 10 percent in January-July 2021. The heavy commercial vehicle market decreased by 4 percent, while the light commercial vehicle market was in line with the average for the last decade. The domestic vehicle share in car sales was 40 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 53 percent during this period.

512,000 units of exports were carried out in seven months

Automotive exports increased by 27 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 512 thousand 320 units in the January-July period. Automobile exports decreased by 3 percent to 322 thousand 874 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), automotive industry exports maintained its first place with a share of 13.5 percent in total exports in the January-July period.

Exports reached 16.7 billion dollars by increasing 27 percent in dollar terms

Total automotive exports increased by 27 percent in Dollar terms and by 17 percent in Euro terms compared to the same period of the previous year, in the January-July period. Total automotive exports amounted to $16.7 billion, while car exports increased by 7 percent to $5.4 billion during this period. Car exports in euro terms decreased by 1 percent to €4.5 billion. Main industrial exports in dollar terms increased by 18 percent, while supply industry exports increased by 42 percent in the first seven months of the year.
