Stating that they started mass production, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, ‘’We sought an answer to the growing need of large-sized electric public transportation in crowded cities with flexible and environmentally friendly solutions. We have developed our e-ATA series of 10, 12 and 18 meters with our electric vehicle experience of over 2 million kilometers. Thus, we completed our electric product range and became the first and only brand in Europe to offer 100 percent electric vehicles in all sizes from 6 meters to 18 meters. Romania was the first to order the 10-meter e-ATA. We will have delivered our first e-ATA fleet of 10 units to the Romanian city of Slatina in December. On the other hand, we signed an agreement for 56 units of e-ATA in the 18-meter class last month. We aim to deliver these buses to two different cities in Romania by 2022.”
Offering transportation solutions suitable for the mobility needs of the era in its factory located in Turkey, Karsan introduced its new 100% electric model family, e-ATA. The e-ATA series, which was introduced to the market to meet the green bus needs of crowded cities, was introduced as three different models with a length of 10, 12 and 18 meters. Taking its name from Ata, which means elders of the family in Turkish, e-ATA consists of the largest bus models in Karsan's electric product range. The electrically produced e-ATA offers a very flexible structure in many areas such as battery technologies and carrying capacity, and can satisfy your needs easily. e-ATA, which can be preferred with 7 different battery packs from 150 kWh to 600 kWh, offers a range of up to 450 kilometers in real driving conditions without compromising on quality issues such as start-stop, passenger drop-off when it works with full capacity on a normal bus rote in all day long with operating air conditioners. Moreover, with its fast charging technology, it can be charged in 1 to 4 hours depending on the size of the battery pack. With the e-ATA model family, Karsan can now offer 100% electric public transportation vehicles in all sizes from 6 meters to 18 meters, and aims to lead the electric transformation in urban transportation.

In his speech at the e-ATA launch, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, “More livable and environmentally friendly steps are being taken for the future all over the world, especially in Europe. Making the buses that serve non-stop in the city completely environmentally friendly is one of these steps. The incentives given for this and the target dates set by developed countries for the transition to zero emissions accelerate the change. As Karsan, we have been leading this transformation for 2 years.
We developed Jest and Atak Electric with proven BMW i battery technology in a short time like 1 year and started mass production. We became the segment leader in the European market in 2020 with the 6-meter Jest Electric, the creator of its class. Offering the longest range in its class, the 8-meter Atak Electric is in high demand from all over Europe, especially in France, Germany and Romania. On the other hand, we broke new ground with our Autonomous Atak Electric model in the 8-meter class and introduced it to the whole world by mass-producing it. In the last two years, we have gained more than 2 million kilometers of experience with our electric vehicles in many European countries.”

Karsan CEO Okan Baş, who stated that Europe will need large-class 100% electric buses such as the e-ATA series, said, “When it comes to European city bus market, we see that 83% of the market consists of 12 and 18-meter large buses. On the other hand, the conversion from diesel to electric buses is increasing rapidly. It is expected that 35% of vehicles sold in 2024, and at least 50% by 2030, will be all-electric. In order to support this transformation, big cities such as Paris, London and Hamburg now require zero emission vehicles in new bus purchases. Karsan, on the other hand, predicted this transformation and made all its plans accordingly 5 years ago. With the e-ATA series sold in market today, we are now in the entire market with our 10,12,18 m 100% electric buses. Thus, as Karsan, we are ready to electrify the future with our electrical product range of all lengths from 6 meters to 18 meters.”
Mass production started, will send a total of 66 e-ATAs to Romania.
Karsan CEO Okan Baş also said “We name this whole evolution “Karsan Electric Evolution.” We denote the symbol of the transformation as “e.” With the launch of our new model, e-Ata, the first members of our electric model family, Jest Electric and Atak Electric, will be called as e-Jest and e-Atak in this transformation journey. The first stage of this transformation process, which Karsan calls Electric Evolution, is the electrification of products. The next stage is to have driverless public transport. Today is one of the most important days of this transformation. As Karsan, we continue to break new ground. With the e-ATA series, we are proud of being the first and only European brand that can offer electric vehicles from 6 meters to 18 meters. Currently, we have started mass production of the e-ATA model family. In fact, the first request came from Romania for the 10-meter e-ATA. We will have delivered our first e-ATA fleet of 10 units to the Romanian city of Slatina in December this year. This agreement, worth 35 million Euros, is also important as it is Turkey's largest electric bus export.”

In e-ATA, an assertive model with its flexible structure, 7 different battery packs from 150 kWh to 600 kWh can be preferred depending on your needs. While the maximum battery capacity is 300 kWh for 10 meters and 450 kWh for 12 meters, the capacity can be increased to 600 kWh in 18-meter class models. e-ATA's wheel-mounted electric hub motors provide 250 kW of peak power and 22,000 Nm of torque at 10 and 12 meters, allowing e-ATA to climb the steepest slopes without any problems. At 18 meters, the maximum power of 500 kW shows full performance even at full capacity. Thanks to its powerful batteries, the e-ATA 12-meter model provides the opportunity to work up to 450 kilometers on a single charge when the vehicle is full and so makes frequent stop-start on a normal bus route, and in summer conditions when the air conditioner is on. With a charging power of up to 150 kW with a wired connection, e-ATA can be charged in 1 to 4 hours depending on the battery pack. Thus, it allows the vehicle to be used all day without a recharge during the day. In addition to wired charging, e-ATA also offers a high-power fast charging option that allows the driver to charge at stops without getting out of the vehicle.

The innately electric e-ATA offers a solid infrastructure for electrical components thanks to its lightweight body and makes a great impression with its futuristic exterior design. Moreover, with its geometry, it offers passengers a full low floor in the interior, which means that passengers can move easily inside. The e-ATA model family provides flexibility in capacity as well as size and electric motor options. Despite its high range, e-ATA, which does not limit passenger capacity, can carry 90 passengers at 10 meters, over 100 at 12 meters, and more than 150 at 18 meters, depending on the battery capacity. With its electric hub motor technology positioned on the wheels, e-ATA offers a large, spacious and ergonomic interior living space, while making the driving experience more efficient. The VDV compatible driver's cockpit in e-ATA allows the vehicle to be controlled in every detail. Drivers can control many details such as energy consumption, warnings and air conditioning from the screen in front of them. In addition, many preventive systems such as mirror camera system, collision warning system and lane departure warning contribute to safe travel of both drivers and passengers. Moreover, e-ATA offers high security thanks to the electrical and electronic infrastructure that complies with ISO ISO 26262 Functional Safety standard.
